Would you like to tame some of the spam coming into your inbox?
Would you like to have more control over your spam settings?
If you answered yes to these questions, then read on and learn how control your own spam settings. First, you will need to login into your webmail account as this controls your inbox even if you do not use webmail at all.

To login go to http://mail.owc.net:7080/scripts/webmail.exe

Once you are logged in, click on the 'options' button. Here you will be presented with numerous options to control the look, feel, and functionality of your email account.

For the purpose of this article and assuming you only want to control your spam settings let's skip right to them.

Now, click on 'Advanced Options'

Again, you will see a list of options to control every aspect of your email account.

Click on 'Server Spam Settings'

Now you will see the core of the spam settings.

One word of caution, we, Fastermac.net, can not and will not be held responsible for lost emails for any reason, but especially not for an error in your spam settings so please use at your own risk. If you think the spam settings are blocking emails, you should set your spam settings back to default.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's continue.

To change your settings, just simply click on the drop down menus and select a number.

The lower the number the tighter the spam control is. I know the screen gives you 3 options, hold, bounce, and vanish, but you are really only setting one of these options even if you adjust all three. The one the server assumes you want use is the one with the lowest number.

I would recommend you just set the bounce setting and set it to 5 to start with. If you are concerned about false positives, then it would be a good idea to not use the first three options and just skip straight to the bottom section. This way you can sort of test your numeric setting prior to holding, bouncing, or vanishing emails. Set your spam indicator number to 5, click save and see how it goes for a week or so. Once you are satisfied that all the emails you want to receive are coming in, then you should modify your bounce setting to reflect the same as your spam indicator so you will not receive the emails marked as ***SPAM*** any more. If you are seeing a lot of false positives then you should increase the number of your spam indicator. It is recommended that you only increase it by one number at a time.

This should help you decrease your spam significantly.
