1. Open your Outlook Express from your Windows menu.
2. Click on "Tools" on the top.
3. Go down to "Message Rules"
4. Select "Mail"
5. For step 1 check the condition "Where the From line contains people"
6. For step 2 check the action "Move to the specified folder"
7. For step 3 click on the link "contains people" and a new window pops open.
a. In the white box at the top you can type in the address you want to add.
b. Once done with the address click "Add"
c. Alternatively you click "Address Book..." and add from your current contacts list.
d. You can see any addresses added in the box labeled "People".
If you added an address by accident you can click on the address to highlight it and
click on the "Remove" button to the right.
e. Once you have all the ones you need added to the list proceed to step 8.
8. Click the "Options..." button on the right.
9. For the "Rule Condition Options" window you will need to do the following
a. For step 1 select "Message does not contain the people below"
b. For step 2 select "Message matches any one of the people below"
c. Click the "OK" button at the bottom.
10. Click "OK" back on the "Select People" window.
11. Back on the "New Mail Rule" menu for step 3 click on the linked word "specified"
12. If you have a folder already created for where you'd like to dump the non-white listed emails skip to step 15. If you need to create a box click on the "New Folder" button.
13. Create a folder name such as "Non-white list mail"
14. Click the "OK" button.
15. Select the box you want to use and/or created in the previous steps and click on the "OK" button.
16. Now you will see all the changes from the previous steps listed in step 3.
17. For Step 4 name the rule. In this case we name it "White List"
18. Click the "OK" button.
19. Back on the main "Message Rule" window your new rule will be present. If you wish to apply the rule immediately click the "Apply Now" button. If you do not then it will start applying with any new messages you receive.
20. Click the "OK"
button to close the window when you're done.
21. Congratulations! You now have a white list mail rule. Do not forget to update it in the future as you get more contacts or domains you want to make an exception for.
