Windows 7 does not include the Windows Live Mail application with the install. Prior to setting up Windows Mail you will need to first connect to the internet and download it using the following instructions. If you have already installed it please proceed to the second half starting with step 14.

1. Click on the Windows button in the lower left corner.

2. In the search box type in the word "essentials"
3. Click on "Go online to get Windows Live Essentials"

4. On the site it brings you to locate the "Download" button and click on it.

5. You will get a popup box asking, "Do you want to run or save this file?" Click on "Save."

6. You will be prompted to select where to save to. We recommend the Desktop to make it easy to find once it is downloaded.

7. Once the download is complete click "Run."

8. The UAC will popup a message asking if you want to make changes. Click "Yes."

9. A screen will come up saying, "Welcome to Windows Live" and will have a bar that says, "Preparing the installer..." Wait while it does this for the next step.

10. Next a window that says, "Choose the programs you want to install." We are interested in "Mail". Check that box. Then click "Install." Note: The rest of the listed options you can select, if there are others you would like installed while you are doing this.

11. The installation process will begin. This may take a few minutes and is also dependent on which options you have selected to have installed.

12. Once the install is completed a new screen will come up. You can select whatever options you would like and click "Continue."

13. On the next screen you can just click "Close."

14. Now to setup the program so you can begin receiving mail. Click on your "Windows" button in the lower left.
15. On the list that comes up you should find "Windows Live Mail." Click on that to open the program.

16. Since no accounts are setup at this time you will get the account setup wizard upon opening it.
17. On the first screen input the following information:

a. Email address: Your email address with us. (e.g. johndoe@owc.net)
b. Password: your email account password
c. Remember Password: Check if you do not wish to type in your password whenever checking your mail.
d. Display Name; Your name as you’d like it to appear on your email.

18. Click "Next."
19. On this screen input the following:

a. My incoming mail server is a ____ server: Set the drop down to "POP3"
b. Incoming server: mail.owc.net
c. Port: 110
d. This server requires a secure connection (SSL): unchecked
e. Log on using: "Secure password authentication"
f. Login ID: full email address (e.g. If your email address was johndoe@owc.net you would put johndoe@owc.net)
g. Outgoing server: mail.owc.net
h. Port: 25 (note: if you have problems with sending mail you can also try port 26 or 587)
i. "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)": unchecked
j. "My outgoing mail server requires authentication": check
k. Click "Next"

20. Click "Finish" and your email is ready to be used with Windows Live Mail.
